ENGR. G. E. OTOBO

Born on 8th June, 1938, at Ughelli,
Delta State. He attended Government College, Ughelli (1950–1955) and
proceeded to the University College, Ibadan, where he obtained
intermediate B. Sc (London). As a Federal Government Scholar, he
proceeded to McGill, University of Montreal, Canada, to obtain his
Bachelor of Engineering Degree in 1960. He later studied at the Purdue
University, Lafayette, Indiana, USA, where he received his Master of
Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1966.
In 1962, he returned to Nigeria and was given an employment at the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing (FMW&H) as an Executive Engineer. He was posted as Resident Engineers Oturkpo, to be in charge of the supervision of the construction of three bridges on Federal Trunk Road A3; He was Assistant Director, Federal Highways construction and on promotion in 1982 rose to the position of Director of Federal Highways. Thereafter, he was Coordinating Director of Federal Highways responsible for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of Federal Highways (1986-1988). In 1988, he was appointed Director-General (Permanent Secretary) of the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing. Director-General, Mineral Resources in the Federal Ministry of Mineral Resources (1992 – 1993). As DG, Mineral Resources, he revitalized the Mineral Resources Sector of the economy by updating and revising the obsolete 1946 Mineral Resources Act putting in place a comprehensive policy and solid mineral development. In 2000, President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, appointed him as Chairman of the Engineering Monitoring Team (An independent monitor of all capital highways and bridges projects). Currently, he is the Managing Partner of Guy Otobo & Partners Ltd.
Engr. Guy Otobo is a Fellow of the Nigerian Societies of Engineers of Great Britain; Fellow, Institution of Civil Engineers; Fellow, American Society of Civil Engineers; Fellow, Economic Development Institute of the World Bank. A registered member of COREN. He was made the Chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency in 2003.
